My name is Nadia and I am the woman behind Mellow Moon Jewelry.
Born and raised just outside of “Victoria BC”, on the unceded W̱SÁNEĆ and lək̓ʷəŋən territory, I grew up being homeschooled which gave me lots of time to work with my hands and be immersed in arts and crafts. As a teen, I attended my local public high school where I was lucky enough to be offered jewelry classes by an awesome teacher, which jumpstarted me onto the path of silversmithing. After high school, I pieced together a small jewelry studio of my own and have continued to hone my skills and teach myself new techniques. My little studio has moved with me a couple of times, and I am now located on Pender Island. I love getting lost in the process. I make everything myself, and rarely draw out designs before starting - I usually just follow my creativity. I am so happy to have found myself on the path of jewelry making, it is my creative outlet. I love making a range of designs, from simple staples to fun statement pieces with the hopes of evoking feelings of empowerment and beauty. The name “Mellow Moon Jewerly” comes from my partner Evan Cheadle’s song “Mellow Moon”.
I try my best to be socially and environmentally conscious and am passionate about reducing my footprint. Jewelry is definitely a luxury item and comes with a price, but I do what I can. I mostly buy my silver from a small local business that is family owned. Silver is infinitely recyclable and does not degrade in quality when recycled. I recycle any scrap silver that is created in my process. I mostly melt it up into little silver balls that you often see adorning my work.
I am also very excited about my beach stone collection of jewelry. All the stones are so unique and beautiful. These stones bypass any unethical working conditions or environmentally harmful extraction processes. Plus, I love looking for “just the right” rocks on the beach, so it’s a win-win if you ask me!
